Hashigo Sushi
About This Spot
Stepping into Hashigo Sushi in the heart of Huntington Beach feels a bit like discovering a quiet nook where tradition and casual comfort meet. The ambient buzz carries the gentle, inviting rhythm of a place that’s perfectly in sync with its welcoming staff and a crowd that clearly comes back for more than just a meal. Here, time slows slightly as guests settle in, often with a sense of familiar anticipation rather than the rush of a typical restaurant. The setting is unpretentious, yet carefully attuned to the simple pleasures of good company and thoughtful flavors.
Hashigo Sushi unfolds as a relaxed neighborhood spot where the focus rests gently on connection — between fresh ingredients, skilled preparation, and those who appreciate it. The menu feels like a quiet journey through Japan’s nuances, where each plate encourages a pause to savor. Whether it’s the crispness of a crunchy roll, the delicate balance of slices in an omakase course, or the comforting warmth of udon noodles steeped in house broth, there’s an effortless harmony in every bite that invites sharing and conversation.
The atmosphere here is both lively and intimate, a place busy enough to feel alive but never rushed. There’s a steady flow of familiar faces mingling with new guests, all drawn to the sincerity that the staff, from attentive servers to welcoming hosts, carry throughout the experience. It’s the kind of meal where the attentive kindness of the service enhances the food’s freshness, making guests feel not just served but genuinely cared for.
At Hashigo Sushi, dining is framed by thoughtful touches — subtle, authentic details like real wasabi, gently handed green tea ice cream to round off a meal, or a ninniku garlic chicken dish that delights with its rich flavors. These moments, small in themselves, add up to a sense of heartfelt hospitality and an appreciation of well-crafted Japanese cuisine, right in the vibrant surroundings of Huntington Beach.

Reserved table for us. Family visiting from Arizona for the weekend. Very courteous people. Had a great dinner. Our guests really enjoyed the food. Awesome service. Cindy was great and made sure we were taken care of. We ordered combo boxes, sushi rolls and udon soup. All fantastic. Thank you. Tony

I’m a sashimi lover and this restaurant offers best fresh fish. Located in the gem of Huntington Beach, Ca next to Trader Joe. Plenty of parking. I always reserve a table before I come because the place is always pack. Also one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Orange County. Owners and Staffs are wonderful

It was amazing, truly perfect! The fatty tuna, yellowtail belly and the oyster were very fresh! Sushi onigiri was really highly recommend.Matcha ice cream was very tasty with deep Matcha flavor. The grilled Black Cod was rich in oil, very tasty. They also offer the lunch specials with reasonable price too. I would like to try more foods with my friends in future.

This is some of the best sushi in HB, and maybe in all of OC. Some of their specials are pretty mind blowing (the price tag is too, but that's sushi/fresh fish!). Service is great. As others mentioned, if you want to be certain of a table, it's best to book as they are pretty regularly busy. You can go for a great lunch too. Parking is easy. My only negative is the restaurant smells very greasy to me, but that only bothers me upon entering, after that I stop noticing it. Not a lot of ambiance, but this is not unusual for sushi especially in a strip mall.

The freshest sushi in Huntington Beach or maybe Orange County. We've been coming here for dinner and wouldn't go anywhere else. They also serve amazing desserts. Presentation is as good as the taste! Truly exceptional! Jimmy is the greatest host!

Hashigo Sushi is a little spot tucked into the corner of the Big 5 parking lot. Despite many years of living in the area and visiting the shopping mall I had no clue it was here until other locals mentioned this spot, so keep your eyes peeled so as to not miss the spot. It's definitely a local spot that is a great kept secret! The atmosphere was a little packed in which was surprising since COVID regulations were not observed at all but that made the visit a little nicer since we weren't bothered about wearing a mask during our visit. We sat at the bar to get a full feel of the chef's specials and environment but next time I will definitely be considering the patio as a romantic option and to avoid the crowd. The drink options were as expected with the standard variety of beers and sake found at most sushi or Japanese restaurants. We went with the green tea which was surprisingly made from powder but very tasty! For the food options we tried a few of the daily specials and went with some of the classics we always liked. Everything was tasty and flavorful and the best part was the chef telling us the standard ways to eat each item. My favorite must have been the one with gold and caviar for it was aesthetically pleasing and bursting with flavor that was not just fishy!! Definitely a great experience and I will visit again!
